Toshiba announced its own largest laptop hard drive

Toshiba announced its own largest laptop hard drive to date, the MKxx65GSX, which caps at 640GB

Though smaller in capacity, the new Toshiba hard drive has two advantages over the WD Scorpio Blue. First, it spins at 5400rpm as opposed to the 5200rpm of the WD, meaning it potentially has a faster throughput speed.
The new Toshiba drive also comes in the regular 9.5mm thickness and therefore will work in all applications where SATA 2.5-inch hard drives currently are used. The Scorpio Blue is 12.5mm thick and therefore only fits in laptops with a larger hard drive bay.

The new hard drive is built based on Toshiba's new 320GB-per-platter design which, according to the company, reduces power consumption and heat dissipation by more than 80 percent compared with 3.5-inch hard drives of the same capacity.

Nokia Booklet 3G Price Revealed

Nokia announced its entrance into the netbook world , but decided to hold fire on revealing the full spec and pricing until the start of its Nokia World event.

A big part of the USP (unique selling point) of the Booklet is its claimed 12 hours of battery life, and thus independence from a charger for a whole working day. We'll believe that when we see it with our own eyes, but if it's true it's a major setback for the nascent ‘smartbook' market, which is hoping all day battery life will be one of its competitive advantages over Intel Atom based mini-notebooks
he device is 3G, WiFi, GPRS/EDGE ready and comes with Bluetooth with A-GPS support as well. The netbook 3G will be powered by Windows 7. As for the price, this one's got to be like one of the expensive netbooks out there as Nokia has revealed that this one will cost around 575 Euro (Rs. 40,000 approx.)

Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell (white)

Asus is perhaps best known for virtually creating the Netbook phenomenon with its line of inexpensive Eee PCs. The company has subsequently done a good job of refining and expanding on the Netbook experience, with systems such as the slim Eee PC 1005HA and the touch-screen Eee PC T91.

The latest move is to add an 11.6-inch display, which, while not currently a threat to popular 10-inch models, still shows a lot of promise for Netbooks becoming ever more useful to mainstream laptop users.

Asus' take on an 11.6-inch Netbook retains the slim, attractive styling of the 10-inch 1005HA, and wisely upgrades the screen to a higher-resolution 1,366x768 model. Like the first 11-inch Netbook we checked out, the Acer Aspire One 751h, it uses the Z520 version of Intel's Atom processor, instead of the more common (and faster) N270 and N280 CPUs

Nokia Corp., the world's largest maker of cell phones,to make laptops

Nokia Corp., the world's largest maker of cell phones, said Monday that it will start making a small, light laptop, similar to ones PC manufacturers are already selling through wireless carriers around the world.

The Finnish company says the Nokia Booklet 3G will run Microsoft Corp.'s Windows software, have a 10-inch screen and weigh 2.8 pounds. That puts it squarely in the "netbook" category pioneered by Taiwanese manufacturers like AsusTek Computer Inc.
Nokia said it would reveal the price and launch date of the PC on Sept. 2. Most netbooks sell for less than $500.
Nokia said its PC would be "satisfying a need" among wireless carriers.
AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless have started selling netbooks in their stores, subsidizing the purchase for customers who sign up for wireless broadband plans. Sprint Nextel Corp. has started subsidizing netbooks sold at Best Buy. In Europe, many carriers started selling netbooks last year.
Unlike most netbooks, Nokia's Booklet will have a built-in GPS navigation chip coupled to Nokia's Ovi Maps software, and an aluminum cover to contrast with the usual plastic.

Nokia has previously tried to expand its portfolio beyond cell phones, making a "tablet" computer that runs non-Windows software.

Lenovo G530 15.4-inch Budget Laptop

Lenovo may have found a configuration that will be very attractive to those looking for a bargain. With a price just below $500, the G530 is very inexpensive for a 15.4-inch laptop system. Even with its low price tag, its features are too restricted as one might expect as long as your aren't planning to do much beyond basic computing (internet, productivity and light multimedia). Where the G530 does sacrifice is in the battery life that is well below average and an older wireless that does not support the faster 802.11n draft standards
it is possible to get a 15.4-inch laptop that comes equipped with a Pentium Dual-Core T3400, 3GB of DDR2 memory, 250GB hard drive, dual layer DVD burner, 802.11b/g wireless and Vista Home Premium. This makes the system much more capable then netbooks costing just $100 less. There are a few downsides to the laptop including a less than average battery life and no support for the 802.11n wireless standard

Sony VAIO FW

The VAIO FW is a 16.4" notebook featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor with great options including: Blu-Ray, a 1600 x 900 viewing format, a HD video card, ATI 3650 or ATI 3470, and an HDMI port to output. The VAIO FW is a brand new Centrino 2 platform notebook from Sony, offering a much needed facelift, as well as a 16.4" widescreen. What sets this apart from other widescreen notebooks is the aspect ratio of the screen lets movie aficionados enjoy a video without ugly bars above and below the screen. This first look will give you a glimpse of what this notebook has to offer, in general use as well as what to expect when watching various Blu-ray titles

The Dell Latitude E6400 XFR

The Dell Latitude E6400 XFR is a 14.1" rugged business notebook, based off the standard E6400 with a new chassis built around the same internal components to make it extremely rugged and waterproof. In this review we put the Dell E6400 XFR through a battery of tests, to see how well it stands up against other fully-rugged notebooks.

this newest model is a little more visually amped up than its all-business Latitude roots would suggest, and we'd say some showing off is in order -- not only can the XFR handle the DoD's MIL-STD 810F heat, dust and vibration requirements, the PR481 "ballistic" armor provides twice the impact protection of magnesium alloy and the whole thing is well-sealed enough to handle direct blasts of pressurized water. Inside, you're looking at a Core 2 Duo paired up with both a 256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M and an integrated Intel 4500MHD driving a sunlight-readable 14.1-inch WXGA display, all in a 2.2-inch thick and 8.5-pound package that's 15 percent thinner and 5 percent lighter than the previous XFR. Yeah, we want one. No detailed pricing yet, but you'll have to save quite a few pennies to get rough with this one -- the starting number is $4,299. Hit up a bunch of pics in the gallery and head after the break for a promo video of the XFR taking quite a beating
